Kai Tak River to be improved
Flood-prevention works are set for a 600-metre section of the Kai Tak River stretching from Po Kong Village Road to Tung Kwong Road. At a works-commencement ceremony, Chief Engineer Alan Ip said the project will improve the river's drainage capacity and significantly enhance the area's flood-protection standard. The very narrow, urbanised and densely populated environment poses serious challenges, Mr Ip said. He noted there were complex arrangements to deal with Choi Hung Road's busy traffic. The total cost of the project is about $1.6 billion. It will start in October and is expected to be completed in mid-2017.
The Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam (fourth left), officiated at the commencement ceremony for Kai Tak River improvement works at Morse Park on March 26. Other attendees included the Convenor of the Community Alliance on Kai Tak Development, Ms Chan Yuen-han (second left); the Director of Drainage Services, Mr Chan Chi-chiu (third left); and the Wong Tai Sin District Council Chairman, Mr Li Tak-hong (fifth left)
