Views sought on future use of quarry site
The Planning Department has launched a three-month community-engagement exercise on the future land use of Anderson Road Quarry in eastern Kowloon. The quarry is located on the southwestern slope of Tai Sheung Tok Hill. It covers 86 hectares, in which a platform of 40 hectares will be formed under the Quarry Rehabilitation Contract managed by the Civil Engineering & Development Department. The works will be completed in mid-2016. The community engagement, which runs until the end of November, seeks public views on future land use planning and design of the study site, particularly the initial land use options proposed. Taking into account the views collected, a preferred option will be formulated to form the basis for preparation of the preliminary outline development plan for the stage two community engagements. The Planning Department began an 18-month study in January to examine the future land use and the potential of the quarry site for residential and other uses, and the possible impact of the proposed developments on surrounding areas. The vision is to reshape the site into a green and liveable community. Briefing sessions will be arranged for stakeholders including the Kwun Tong and Sai Kung District Councils and area committees. Roving exhibitions displaying the study background, initial land-use options and other information will be held at different locations in those districts.
