Guangzhou Baiyun Wanda Plaza phase one opened
Located at Baiyun New Town (site of the former Baiyun Airport), Phase one of Guangzhou Baiyun Wanda Plaza was officially opened in late 2010. Upon full completion the mixed-use commercial development will have a total CFA of approximately 392,000 square meters, including 220,000 square meters of commercial and hotel CFA.
     The development comprises shopping malls, grade-A office space, a 5-star hotel, a business hotel, outdoor shopping streets and IMAX cinema. Total development cost for the entire project is estimated at RMB5 billion.
     Baiyun Wanda Plaza is a low-rise development with 6 levels above ground and 2 levels of basement. The shopping mall is naturally lit by extensive atria and skylights. At the cost of RMB100 million, two High Definition Digital Sky Screen, with a combined area of 1,600 square meters, were installed at the shopping streets. The Sky Screens are the first of their kind in southern China and are becoming big attractions for visitors. In addition, there are also two large-scale outdoor LED screens, each measuring over 60 square meters. The full-action LED screens create an inviting commercial atmosphere to the vicinity, especially at night time.
     The Hilton Hotel at Wanda Plaza, with a GFA of 45,000 square meters, will be the flagship hotel of Hilton in China. The 5-star hotel is tentatively scheduled to open in September 2011.
     Wanda Plaza is conveniently located at the centre of Baiyun New Town and is served by Guangzhou Metro Line 2 at Feichang Park Station. During its opening in December 2010, the shopping mall had a daily traffic of 100,000 in the first week, which sets a new record for shopping malls in Guangzhou.
     Developed by Dalian Wanda Group, the complex is one of the flagship stores of Wanda Square in Guangdong province. Wang Jianlin, chairman of Wanda Group said Wanda plans to develop 10 projects of the same nature in Guangzhou and two projects will commence construction within this year.
     Currently, the Wanda Group is operating 43 mixed-use commercial complex in China. According to plan, there will be another 17 new Wanda Plaza developments to be opened within 2011 in various cities in China.
