Reconstructing and upgrading of Sha Tin WTW
AECOM Technology Corporation has been commissioned by the Water Supplies Department of Hong Kong SAR Government to reconstruct and upgrade the Sha Tin Water Treatment Works (WTW), currently supplying water to part of urban Kowloon, and the entire Hong Kong Central and Western districts.  AECOM will provide detailed process review, pilot testing, detailed design, tender invitation and construction supervision.  With the design capacity of 1,227 million-liters-per-day (MLD), the Sha Tin WTW is the largest WTW in Hong Kong, providing water for over 2 million people, more than 30 percent of the population of Hong Kong.  It is also one of the largest water treatment works in Asia.
The Sha Tin WTW comprises North Works and South Works, which were constructed in four phases since the early 1960s. AECOM's task is to carry out detailed design and construction supervision to reconstruct and upgrade the existing South Works from 360MLD to 550MLD, while maintaining output of the plant at 880MLD.  In addition, common facilities for the existing plant, including inlet works, chemical house, pumping station, administration building will be reconstructed and a new visitor centre will be built. AECOM is also responsible for developing the final layout plan for the ultimate stage of the Sha Tin WTW. The project will commence in August 2010 and is scheduled to complete in 2016.
