RMB800 million yuan Asian Games Stadium nears completion

Government officials said the main structure of the Asian Games Stadium in Guangzhou's Asian Games Town has largely been finished. The stadium will be completed by the end of August. At present, the project is wrapping up and equipment testing is underway.

The Asian Games Stadium is located in the south of the Asian Games Town and is easily accessible as it is connected to Haibang Station on Metro Line 4 to the west of the Media Centre via the Sky Walk Corridor. The new facility is externally painted in silvery white and resembles a flying ribbon, a UFO, or a turbot fish when seen from a distance.

According to Deng Xinyong, Director of the Pre-Games Design Department of the Office for Key Asian Games Projects, the lighting, sound, flag hoisting and simultaneous interpretation systems for the Asian Games stadium are in place, and the entire stadium will be ready before August 30.
Built at a cost of about RMB 800 million yuan, the Asian Games Stadium comprises stadiums for gymnasium, billiard sports and squash and an exhibition hall featuring the history of the Asian Games in Guangzhou. The gymnasium stadium has 6,000 seats, with 2,000 more to be added after the event. The stadium has a gross floor area of 31,482 square meters.
