Three recreational and cultural projects launched
Three projects on recreational and cultural facilities in Mong Kok, Yuen Long and Tuen Mun, plus the $1.8 billion Sports Institute redevelopment works, will create more than 2,000 jobs.
The Legislative Council Public Works Subcommittee recently supported in principle proposals to upgrade the three projects, which are Mong Kok Stadium improvement works, building a public library and indoor recreation centre in Yuen Long and developing a swimming pool complex in Tuen Mun.
The projects will cost HK$2 billion and create 1,000 jobs, including 900 for labourers and 100 for professional and technical staff.
The bureau will submit the fund allocation applications to the LegCo Finance Committee for consideration. Once approved, construction will start within this year for completion in 2011-2012.
