Wynn targets 2028 opening for Cotai event centre

Wynn Resorts is aiming to open its new event centre, a new project adjacent to its Cotai property’s main entry, by early 2028, with this investment still pending government approval.

Craig Scott Billings, Chief Executive Officer of Wynn Resorts, said that market share competition remained intense, describing the situation as ‘hand-to-hand combat’.
‘So we have a very clear view, as I’ve said before, of how much incremental reinvestment we need to make in order to be competitive and also to make money.’
Billings also recognised the need for the gaming operator to beef up entertainment investment, which he said ‘has been driving visitation and demand’.
‘Now, when that entertainment is a large-scale arena-based event, it’s kind of similar to citywide in Las Vegas. So it tends to affect everybody in the market,’ he said.
Upon completion, the event centre, which is now going through a design and engineering stage, will be perched on the ‘north parcel of land that sits there, adjacent to the main entry to Wynn Palace’.
The casino operator has put aside a range of US$200 million to US$250 million in capital expenditure for this year — with Chairman’s Club at Wynn Palace and Wynn Tower at Wynn Macau slated for upgrades.
