Ponte 16's US$77M expansion plan launched
The Macau Land and Urban Construction Bureau has launched a public consultation for a draft urban conditions plan concerning the expansion of the Ponte 16 casino-hotel complex in the Inner Harbour area. The consultation, closed on 30 April, represents a crucial step toward initiating construction on the enhanced facilities.
Among 13 urban development proposals released for public review, the Ponte 16 plan establishes strict height regulations, ensuring that existing structures remain unchanged while new developments do not exceed 20.5 metres.
Following government approval last November—secured through an amendment to the site’s land concession—the project is now authorized to expand its footprint by 9,217 square metres, supplementing the existing 9,424-square-metre site. The upgraded complex will feature a new commercial building, a public plaza, and the revitalized "Macau Palace" ship, which once served as a floating casino. The total gross floor area, including an associated parking lot, will reach 11,614 square metres.

Potential Impacts on the Inner Harbour Area
The Ponte 16 expansion is expected to bring significant changes to the district:

Economic Growth:
With an estimated investment ranging from 515 million to 618 million patacas (approximately US$64 million to US$77 million), the project will generate employment opportunities and boost local business activities.

Urban Revitalization:
The inclusion of a new commercial building, plaza, and the restored Macau Palace ship will transform the area into a vibrant hub for retail, dining, and cultural experiences.

Tourism Enhancement:
The Macau Palace will be repurposed as a museum of gaming culture, enriching the city’s tourism offerings by preserving historical elements.

Infrastructure Improvements:
Upgrades to public spaces and pedestrian accessibility will enhance the overall environment for residents and visitors.

Overall, the Ponte 16 expansion is poised to strengthen Macau’s tourism appeal while contributing to the city’s evolving urban landscape.
