530-meter-tall Guangzhou CTF Finance Centre completed as the tallest building in the city
The Guangzhou CTF Finance Centre (CTF Guangzhou) is a 530-meter-tall, mixed-use tower located across from the Guangzhou IFC and Canton Tower. The project is adjacent to a large central park and a subterranean retail concourse with transportation interchanges and will house an unprecedented mix of programs: 208,000 square meters of office, 75,000 square meters of residential, and a 46,000 square meter hotel. A stepped podium with spiraling roof terraces will contain hotel ballroom and function space as well as 47,000 square meters of retail, restaurant and cinema program. At its daily peak, the project will accommodate more than 30,000 people.
Designed by KPF, the form of the CTF Guangzhou is derived from its multiple uses. The building steps to accommodate the changing floor plates of the various program types and also highlight the relationship between the adjacent West Tower and TV Tower, the city’s other two landmark super tall structures. The CTF’s chiseled setbacks are also sculpted to acknowledge the various heights of the nearby towers and to provide a crescendo on the city’s ever-expanding skyline. The overall effect of the tower is of a crystalline form ascending to the sky. This formal vocabulary extends to the podium, which extends upwards from the tower, with stepping terraces that frame a large atrium skylight.
