The revised masterplan of Guangzhou South Station area was announced recently with more commercial plots. The masterplan covers an area of 36.2 square kilometers with 28.72 square kilometers for construction development and 7.48 square kilometers for non-construction use. The area is divided by two axes with 6 zones. Land parcels located in the southwestern part are revised for commercial use according to market demand.

Currently, the Guangzhou South Station records a daily passenger flow of 150,000 (approximately 54 million per annum), it is estimated that the figures will increase to 85 million in 2020 and 130 million in 2030.

With a high concentration of various types of transportation including the high speed rail service, new metro lines and an efficient network of expressway in the area, the district has sufficient infrastructure to become a new commercial hub in southern Guangzhou.

With the opening of the Strait West to Mid-West High Speed Train on September 26, 2013, the total distance covered by China's high speed rail system reaches 10,463 kilometers, which represents 45% of operational high speed rail lines in the world. With ongoing construction of high speed rail link projects, the total length will reach 18,000 kilometers within the next five years.
