Kowloon City renewal views sought

The Kowloon City District Urban Renewal Forum today launched the Stage 2 Public Engagement for the Urban Renewal Plan for Kowloon City to seek views on the draft plan. The forum revised the renewal proposals and consolidated them into a draft plan after taking into account public views received during the Stage 1 Public Engagement for the Preliminary Urban Renewal Proposals last August and September.

The draft plan proposes to establish appropriate areas in the district for promoting urban renewal approaches, including redevelopment priority area, rehabilitation and revitalisation priority area and mixed redevelopment and rehabilitation area.

It also proposes to facilitate urban renewal work through measures including positioning the sub-areas in the district for shaping local character; revitalising cultural heritage and designation of a themed walking trail; enhancing the waterfront and district connectivity; and optimising land resources.

The stage 2 public engagement will last for two months until the end of June. The forum will hold community workshops, topical discussions, a public forum and roving exhibitions.
The forum will prepare the Recommended Urban Renewal Plan for Kowloon City based on views collected and further findings of a Social Impact Assessment, in particular the proposed mitigation measures to address the social impacts. It will then submit the plan to the Government for consideration.
