Tung Chung housing plans to provide 3,600 flats
A public rental housing development in Tung Chung Area 56 is expected to be completed in 2016, said Secretary for Transport & Housing Prof Anthony Cheung. The site had been zoned 'Residential (Group A)' since 2001, foundation work of the project commenced in May 2012 and the project is expected to be completed in 2016.
The project includes four 41-storey domestic blocks with about 3,600 public rental housing flats for about 9,900 people. It will also include a carpark, open space, retail facilities and community and welfare facilities. The Housing Authority consulted the Islands District Council on the development proposal at the site in February 2009 and subsequent revision of the development proposal was made.
The government will provide adequate transport facilities and a new road will be constructed to connect different sites in the area to the existing Ying Hei Road and Man Tung Road nearby. The new road will be divided into southern and northern portions with the provision of lay-bys suitable for public transport use and it is scheduled for completion in 2015/2016 to tie in with the development's completion.
