AECOM wins consultancy contract for waste management facilities

AECOM Technology Corporation has recently been awarded a consultancy contract for the development of Integrated Waste Management Facilities (IWMF) Phase 1 by the Environmental Protection Department of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

AECOM's scope of works includes prequalification, tender services, construction management and commissioning services for the Design-Build-Operate contract. It is a complex, multi-disciplinary mega-scale project to be implemented in a tight time frame. The key elements of the project comprise an artificial island near Shek Kwu Chau, a 3,000-tonne-per-day (tpd) incineration plant with energy recovery and power generation, a 200-tpd mechanical sorting and recycling plant as well as an environmental education center. The completed facilities will serve the needs of approximately one-third of Hong Kong's population.
