In 2010, Hong Kong received a record-high of 36 million visitors from around the world, a remarkable increase of 21.8% over 2009. It is also the first time that the number of arrivals surpassed the 30 million mark. According to government statistics, as at end of 2010, there are 176 hotels in Hong Kong providing 60,428 rooms. In view of strong market demand, the government is providing more sites "restricted for hotel use" to cope with future growth of the tourism industry.
