Elimination of incandescent light bulbs
Leading LED lighting provider Optiled Lighting has expressed its full support and solidarity to a recent government consultation on restriction on the sale of incandescent light bulbs (ILB). Optiled believes that low energy-efficient ILB should be replaced by other lighting solutions which are more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. In response to the Government's public consultation, Optiled would like to recommend the following two approaches: กค A realistic time frame should be set to phase out low energy-efficient and high power ILB immediately. กค The promotion of recycling fluorescent lamps and compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) should be strengthened to entrench public sector adopts energy-saving lighting such as LED lights. Being part of the lighting industry, Optiled will be delighted to discuss details and concrete execution plan with the government, experts and other members to provide support. "Optiled has been fully committed to developing green LED lighting. We have recently planned to participate in Hong Kong government's Voluntary Energy Efficient Labeling Scheme to demonstrate our perseverance towards corporate social responsibility," said Peter Chan, Managing Director of Optiled. Mr Chan added this public consultation of ILB limitation is very encouraging. Not only does it embark an important phase in approaching a greener lifestyle in Hong Kong, but it also helps to reduce global carbon emission, keeping the same pace as other Western developed countries in protecting the environment. In light of this, Optiled is determined to take up the responsibility in creating a green city together with the Hong Kong government. Optiled has always been doing its best to introduce green living by educating and offering green lighting solution to the market. Comparing to ILB, LED lighting saves up to 80% of energy and has 35 times longer lifespan. Since LED lights emit at very minimal heat, they can truly reduce carbon dioxide emissions and thus ease greenhouse effect. Moreover, Optiled's LED lighting does not contain any hazardous substances such as mercury and lead as opposed to compact fluorescent lamps. Components of Optiled LED products are recyclable, which makes it the ultimate choice of green lighting solution. Optiled believes a joint effort between industry and government will maximize the results in bringing energy-saving lighting to the public, and in return creating a more sustainable living environment.
