Special report on HKIA - The World's Best Airport
In the past decade, Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has received close to 40 world’s best airport awards. In 2010, HKIA recorded 50.9 million passenger throughput and 4.1 million tonnes of air cargo throughput.
Chek Lap Kok, where HKIA is located, has grown and become the most successful "Airport City" in the world with all kinds of facilities and supporting industry to keep the most vibrant airport in the world moving 24 hours a day “everyday" — HKIA is truly a City within a City for the world's travelers.
In the next coming issue of BUILDING JOURNAL, we will take a look at new developments under planning and construction at HKIA. A special section will provide a historical report on the construction of the airport back in the early 90s.
