Zumtobel Group lights up pavilions at Expo 2010
The Zumtobel Group and its brands are strongly represented at Expo 2010, Shanghai from 1 May to 31 October 2010. Products and lighting expertise from the Zumtobel, Thorn and Tridonic brands are helping to light up the event.
"In line with the motto of this year's Universal Exposition - 'Better City, Better Life' - Expo 2010 is all about humanity's desire for a better life in the cities of the future. Concepts that will lead to a sustainable improvement in the quality of urban life are becoming more important than ever, and this has a direct bearing on our branch of industry," said Martin Bowe, Director Emerging Markets at the Zumtobel Group. "Expo 2010 in Shanghai is the biggest universal exposition of all time. For us it's very important that our products should be seen to be at the leading edge and to support this perception through events. We are also making targeted use of the Expo as a customer event for the Zumtobel and Thorn brands."
Thorn and Tridonic are illuminating the Chinese pavilion. The host nation's pavilion, also known as the Crown of the East, is the main landmark structure of the Shanghai event. An ideally matched blend of Tridonic ballasts, igniters and capacitors was used to generate the typical "China Red" colour of light, while the UK-based Thorn brand provided some 2,000 luminaires for the pavilion, including wall-washers, downlights and floodlights, equipped with Tridonic ballasts. Thorn Shanghai and Tridonic Shanghai worked hand-in-hand to realize this prestigious project.
"In the Chinese pavilion we have lit up the key symbol of Expo 2010. The building will not be torn down when the Universal Exposition comes to an end but will remain a landmark of Shanghai. We are delighted to have played an important part in realising the Chinese pavilion," said Martin Bowe. Apart from in the Chinese pavilion, Thorn downlights and batten luminaires also feature in the pavilions of the Rhone-Alpes and Hong Kong regions and in the Finnish pavilion, as well.
