Online collaboration system for cargo terminal construction
Aconex has been selected by the Gammon-Hip Hing joint venture to provide its online collaboration system to the project to build the new Cathay Pacific air cargo terminal at Hong Kong International Airport. The Aconex system will be used to link the organizations involved in the development by allowing them to manage all their project information using a central, web-based platform. The new terminal, which is approximately 280,000 square meters and will occupy a site area of approximately 10 hectares, is scheduled for completion in 2013. It will include the construction of an eight-storey warehouse with access ramps and an office building, along with a semi automated Material Handling System (MHS). The joint venture team comprises two of Hong Kong's largest contractors, Gammon and Hip Hing Constructions. By using Aconex, all project members will be able to access, distribute and track their documents, approvals and correspondence at any time and from any location. Richard Ellis, Project Manager of the Joint Venture, said: "Our previous experience using Aconex means that we know we are implementing a system that will meet our needs. On this complex project, a large number of organizations will need to communicate and retrieve important documentation in a time critical fashion. We are confident Aconex will provide us with the best platform and support to achieve that goal." Leigh Jasper, Aconex Chief Executive Officer, said: "Aconex provides an independent, third-party platform for storing and managing information. Throughout the project, the system will maintain an audit trail and archive of every document and mail transaction. This facilitates trust between parties, making it an excellent solution for joint ventures." Aconex is one of the world's largest providers of online project management solutions to the construction and engineering industries. From its 35 offices worldwide, including eight in Asia, the company supports more than US$220 billion worth of projects across 65 countries. Clients include Venetian Macau, AECOM, McConnell Dowell, IKEA and McDonalds Restaurants.
