Kwun Tong Line Extension commenced operation
The Kwun Tong Line Extension Scheme was gazetted on 27 November 2009 under the Railways Ordinance. After the MTR Corporation conducted the detailed design, the amendments to the scheme were gazetted on 25 June 2010. Construction of the new rail line commenced in 2011 and the Kuwn Tong Line Extension was in train service on 23 October 2016. The new line extends the existing Kwun Tong Line from Yau Ma Tei to Whampoa with an intermediate station to Ho Man Tin.
There are two underground stations at Ho Man Tin and Whampoa. The route length is approximately 2.6 km and takes 5 minutes to reach Whampoa Station from Yau Ma Tei Station.
Extending from the existing overrun tunnel of Yau Ma Tei Station, the line runs along Gascoigne Road cross Wylie Road and reach Ho Man Tin Station at the junction of Chatham Road North, Fat Kwong Street and Chung Hau Street. It then runs through Chatham Road North via Wuhu Street and Tak Man Street, and extend to Whampoa Station beneath Tak On Street.
Whampoa Station is the terminus of Kwun Tong Line, while Ho Man Tin Station will be the interchange station with Shatin to Central Link.
Kwun Tong Line Extension (KTE) passenger can interchange with the Sha Tin to Central Link (SCL) at Ho Man Tin Station. North bound passengers can travel to East Kowloon and the Eastern New Territories, whilst south bound passengers can travel to Hung Hom Station and onwards to Hong Kong Island on the North-South corridor of the SCL.
