Arcadis releases Sustainable Cities Index 2016
Arcadis, a global design and consultancy, has just released the latest Sustainable Cities Index 2016. The index explores three pillars of sustainability – social (People), environmental (Planet) and economic (Profit) to develop an indicative ranking the world’s leading cities – covering 100 cities in total.
Report finds that Hong Kong is ranked 16th globally, but is placed 2nd in the profit sub-index, offering one of the most sustainable business environments in the world, along with Singapore.
Interestingly, the report also demonstrates that cities around the world are living at extremes and exhibit polarized performance across the three pillars of sustainability. For example, Hong Kong excel in the profit arena but have much room for improvement in the sustainable living conditions as seen from the people sub-index (positioned at 81stplace).
The overall index analyses 32 different indicators, such as education, work-life balance, property prices, energy use, pollution measures, GDP per capita, ease and cost of doing business were incorporated to form the rankings.
