11th Annual CTBUH Awards held in Chicago
In its third year, the CTBUH's free Awards Symposium was held on October 18, at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago. The full day event featured presentations from two of the Finalist projects and the new Innovation Award. In addition, delegates heard presentations from representatives of the regional Best Tall Building winners: Absolute Towers, Mississauga (Americas region), 1 Bligh Street, Sydney (Asia & Australasia region), Palazzo Lombardia, Milan (Europe region), Doha Tower, Doha (Middle East & Africa region), and Al Bahar Towers, Abu Dhabi, UAE (Innovation Award), as well as from the two lifetime achievement award winners: Helmut Jahn, and partners Charles Thornton & Richard Tomasetti.
This year the CTBUH Board of Trustees awarded the Lynn S Beedle Lifetime Achievement Award to Helmut Jahn, the architect known for his simple and elegant designs. The Awards dinner also introduced three new CTBUH Fellows - Nicolas Billotti of Turner International, Georges Binder of Buildings and Data; and James Robinson of Hong Kong Land - who were honored for their lifetime commitment to the CTBUH.

CTBUH Fellow 2012 Georges Binder (left) started working in the real estate arm of the financial Ageas Group. He eventually founded Buildings & Data sa, which is specialized in marketing and research studies in architecture and real estate.
Georges has been actively involved in the CTBUH for 20 years, serving as the CTBUH Country Representative for Belgium since 2009, on the Advisory Board, as the Height Committee Chair from 1994-1998, and the editor of the 101 Tallest Buildings book in 2006.
